Luxury Fancy Color Diamond Market: Signs of Stability Emerge in Q2 2025
New York, July 25, 2025 – The fancy color diamond market, despite a modest 0.5% decline in Q2 2025, is showing early signs of stabilization. According to the latest report from the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF), several sub-categories that previously saw drops have experienced significant recoveries. This suggests the market is undergoing a measured adjustment rather than a continued downturn.
Bright Spots Amidst Market Stability: Pink and Blue Diamonds Lead the Way
While the overall Fancy Color Diamond Index (FCDI) saw a slight dip, the detailed data reveals encouraging trends. Notably, vivid pink and blue diamonds have shown remarkable recovery.
-
Pink diamonds, though down 0.4% overall, saw surprising recoveries in specific stones. For instance, the 1-carat Fancy Vivid Pink rose by 1.4%, and the 8-carat Fancy Vivid Pink by 1.1%. This underscores persistent demand for highly saturated pink diamonds.
-
Blue diamonds experienced a milder 0.3% decline (compared to 0.5% in Q1), with some performing exceptionally well. The 1.5-carat Fancy Vivid Blue gained 1.4%, placing it among the top climbers of the quarter.
Yellow diamonds saw a 0.7% decline overall, but even here, mixed results emerged. Some sub-categories showed improvement, such as the 10-carat Fancy Yellow, which increased by 0.3% after a previous dip.
Long-Term Growth and Positive Outlook
Despite current fluctuations, the impressive long-term growth of fancy color diamonds is worth noting. Since 2005, prices for all fancy color diamonds have increased by 203.5%. Blue diamonds are up 241.3%, pinks by 391.3%, and yellows by 48.3%.
Vishal Shah of Stargems adds, "Following a period of caution, we're now seeing consistent interest across the high-end color diamond segment. With summer underway, the market feels stable and selectively active, setting the stage for a stronger close to the year."
This stabilization and selective growth indicate that the luxury fancy color diamond market is disciplined in its adjustments, laying the groundwork for a potential rebound in the second half of the year, especially with anticipated shifts in consumer confidence and limited supply of new rough diamonds.
